What are signs of suspension trouble?
To keep your car driving safely and smoothly, it's important that your suspension remains in great shape. At the first sign of suspension failure, you'll want to get to the shop for an inspection. At L&S MotorWerks, our local mechanics specialize in European auto repair, and can expertly diagnose and repair your Euro car's suspension trouble. Come and see us when you notice one of the following signs of a bad suspension.
Warning Signs of Suspension Failure
If your car starts bouncing wildly whenever you hit a little bump in the road, then you've got a tell-tale sign of suspension trouble. With a failing spring, you may hear clunking noises when going over bumps. A bad spring can also cause your vehicle to slouch in the relevant corner. Symptoms of suspension failure also sometimes arise while braking. If your suspension isn't working properly, then your vehicle could take more time to stop after you first engage the brakes. A faulty suspension can also cause your vehicle to feel like it's nose-diving during the braking process. You'll also want to be familiar with a few other signs of suspension trouble so you know to get to the shop when they occur. For one, if your shocks have oil leaking out onto them, then you'll probably need to get them replaced. Also, a bad suspension can cause tire tread to wear down in an uneven manner, leading to the formation of bald spots. And if it feels like your car is drifting while taking sharp corners, then you may have a failing suspension.
Fails The Bounce Test
If you think your suspension may be malfunctioning, then you can do a quick test to get a better idea. First off, be sure your car is securely parked and won't roll. Then go to the front end, press down on it strongly, and rock it twice before letting go. After that, go to the rear and do the exact same thing. Upon releasing, your vehicle shouldn't rock more than three times on its own. But if it rocks more than this, then you'll want to have a mechanic take a look at your suspension.
